Katie Seal
I’m a local girl from Poole with a background in commercial archaeology. I’ve worked for Oxford Archaeology, Wessex Archaeology, and AC Archaeology on sites across the UK, including Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Oxford, Cambridge and Wales.
My projects have ranged from HS2 and Hinkley Point Power Station to a research excavation at the medieval fortress of Hotalich in Bulgaria. Experiences like these, both at home and abroad, inspire how I care for and interpret heritage here in Wareham.
Katie’s Story …
I hold an undergraduate degree and an MRes from Bournemouth University, where I specialised in osteoarchaeology. My research focused on an 18th–19th century Royal Naval skeletal assemblage from Plymouth and the impact of displaying human remains in museums — insights that shape how I approach heritage and curation today.
As Museum Co-ordinator at Wareham Town Museum, I see my role as a guardian of the town’s heritage. I’m passionate about making the museum accessible to all, so everyone can connect with their ancestors’ histories and roots. I’m lucky to work alongside a dedicated team of volunteers and the support of Wareham Town Council, whose knowledge, care, and commitment make the museum the vibrant community space it is today.
